Listed below are some of the more common diseases treated by rheumatology health care professionals in our office:
MRI:
|
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an imaging technique used primarily in medical settings to produce high quality images of the inside of the human body. MRI scans are used to diagnose many orthopedic and rheumatologic conditions. Below is a link to the MR scanner Green Bay Orthopedics uses: http://www.gehealthcare.com/usen/mr/escan_xq/index.html |
Bone Densitometry:
|
Physicians use radiography, or x-rays, to view and evaluate bone fractures and other injuries of the musculoskeletal system. However, a plain x-ray test is not the best way to assess bone density. To detect osteoporosis accurately, doctors use an enhanced form of x-ray technology called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). DXA bone densitometry is today's established standard for measuring bone mineral density (BMD). DXA is a quick, painless procedure for measuring bone loss. Measurement of the lower spine and hips are most often done. More portable devices that measure the wrist, fingers or heel are sometimes used for screening, including some that use ultrasound waves rather than x-rays. Bone density is used most often to diagnose low bone mass due to osteoporosis. However, this technology can be applied to other orthopedic and rheumatologic conditions.
